F1 Monaco GP LIVE RESULTS: Norris fights off Leclerc to WIN thrilling race, Hamilton finishes in 5th – updates
LANDO NORRIS has raced to victory at the Monaco Grand Prix after holding off Ferrari star Charles Leclerc!
The McLaren driver is chasing down Championship-leading teammate Oscar Piastri - and a win today has seen him significantly close the gap.
Lewis Hamilton started the day down in seventh after picking up a penalty and could only secure a 5th place finish by the end of the race.
But one of the main talking points will be about Pierre Gasly who was forced into a pit lane after losing his BRAKES in scary circumstances.

Winner gets hands on trophy
Lando Norris received the unique trophy for winning the Monaco Grand Prix.

This is a day to remember for Lando.

Lando Norris made no attempt to hide his goals this season.
Monaco was always the one he wanted to win.
As he crossed that line, the British driver has achieved a dream that he probably first harboured as a child.

Lando Norris wins the Monaco Grand Prix with his family in attendance to see it.
He got himself on pole position and kept it despite Max Verstappen's best attempts to change that.
But it was the Brit who got to see that sight every F1 driver dreams of at Monaco.

Lap 77/78 – Verstappen leads, Norris second
Leclerc has been sliding around the last few corners.
It seems he is losing some grip on those rare tyres.
Verstappen has to pit on this final lap.
Lap 75/78 – Verstappen leads, Norris second
Time is running out for Verstappen.
It is looking like Norris is going to take pole position.
Unless Leclerc can pull off a miracle.
Lap 73/78 – Verstappen leads, Norris second
There are lots of clusters of cars at various points now.
We are no closer to that red flag that Verstappen is craving however.
The battle between Norris and Leclerc is really hotting up.

Verstappen still leads but is hoping for something to happen.
He is looking at fourth place without a red flag in these closing stages.
Leclerc is right on the tail of Norris currently.
Lap 69/78 – Verstappen leads, Norris second
There is less than two seconds between the front three now.
This is really where trouble could happen between Norris and Leclerc.
That is certainly what Verstappen is hoping for.
Lap 67/78 – Verstappen leads, Norris second
Having double-checked the rules, Verstappen will need to pit.
If he were not to, he would be disqualified.
The Red Bull team will be looking to leave that as late as possible.
Lap 65/78 – Verstappen leads, Norris second
Red Bull are keeping their fingers crossed for this red flag.
That is the only way he can realistically win this race.
Norris has dropped off Verstappen and may be looking to get Leclerc involved with his teammate.

Aside from this front three, there is little happening in the rest of the field.
Such is the way with this track, not really one for overtaking.
Norris is dropping off the back of Verstappen, concerned about keeping his power unit cool.
As it stands, Verstappen would receive a 30 second penalty for not pitting again.
If he does pit or doesn't he would finish fourth regardless.
Lap 61/78 – Verstappen leads, Norris second
It is an interesting battle out there now.
As Verstappen stays out there, he is causing Norris and Leclerc to close up with one another.
In a perfect world, they will tangle, causing the need to pit again to have bodywork replaced.
Lap 59/78 – Verstappen leads, Norris second
Norris is closing the gap on Verstappen in first place.
There is less than a second between the pair.
Tactically, this good be good for the Red Bull as it will cause more wear on Norris' tyres if having to break excessively.
Lap 57/78 – Verstappen leads, Norris second
Red Bull are hoping for a red flag in this race.
If it were to happen, Verstappen could pit and keep his track position.
Hamilton heads into the pits and returns to the track in fifth spot.

Russell has been given a drive through penalty.
He is down in tenth spot and it does not seem like a day where Mercedes will be amongst the points.
The Brit is given the 'box. box' order for the penalty from his team.
Lap 53/78 – Verstappen leads, Norris second
Verstappen has a 4.3 second lead on Norris in second.
He still has to pit again so it is all about how much of a lead he can build before that happens.
Leclerc is just 2 seconds behind the McLaren.
Lap 51/78 – Verstappen leads, Norris second
Leclerc heads into the pits, which sees the Red Bull overtake him.
A quick 2.2 second pit from the Ferrari team.
Norris now heads into the pits as well and comes back out in front of Leclerc.

Norris and Leclerc have caught up with a pack of cars.
That now means the front pair have to overtake eight drivers.
On a tight track like this, that is easier said than done.
Lap 47/78 – Norris leads, Leclerc second
There is a lot of tactical driving going on out there today.
We are seeing some drivers purposely slowing down the pack behind them for the benefit of their teammates.
Hamilton is now some way behind Verstappen in fourth place.
Lap 45/78 – Norris leads, Leclerc second
Piastri almost slides around one corner there.
He did well to keep control of the car, some driving.
Tokyo Drift in Monaco almost.
Lap 43/78 – Norris leads, Leclerc second
All of the top five have pitted just once so far.
It is all about strategy for those drivers now.
Piastri still holds the fastest lap of the day.

That retirement means that Alonso is pointless after eight races, his worst start to an F1 season.
There are still plenty of pit stops required today.
With new rules in place for this event, every driver has to use three different sets of tyres, meaning a two pit spot minimum.
Lap 39/78 – Norris leads, Leclerc second
Alonso is out of the race and manages to get off the track.
He does so well and, as a result, we will only have a yellow flag.
The Spaniard is reporting smoke coming from his engine.
