Oscars 2025: Anora wins five awards as Wicked settles for just two gongs

The Oscars 2025 was certainly one to remember

DEMI Moore looked furious at the Oscars as she lost out on the Best Actress award to Anora’s leading lady Mikey Madison.

Hosted by comedian and TV personality Conan O'Brien, the 2025 Oscars saw highs and blows galore.

Demi could be seen gritting her teeth as her name wasn't called - but she whispered "nice" while clapping the Hollywood newcomer, who picked up the coveted gong for her role as a sex worker who marries the son of an oligarch.

The biggest winner of the night was Anora, collecting five gongs including awards for Best Picture, Best Editing, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay and of course, Best Actress.

Timothée Chalamet missed out on the Best Actor Oscar after playing Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown, but he did get a kiss from girlfriend Kylie Jenner.

The prize went to Adrien Brody for his role in The Brutalist. And in a bizarre moment, Brody chucked his chewing gum at his girlfriend before collecting the statuette.

Emilia Perez actress Zoe Saldana broke down in tears on stage and screamed out to her mom after winning her maiden Academy Award gong for Best Supporting Actress.

There were tears all round when Morgan Freeman paid tribute to his friend Gene Hackman after the Superman actor died alongside his wife.

And in a blow for Wicked, tipped to take home a fleet of gongs, it snagged just two - for Best Costume Design and Production Design - which came after Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo performed at the coveted event.

Sean Baker has become only the second person to claim four individual Oscars in one night, a feat last completed by Disney in 1954.

  • Adrien Brody wins best actor Oscar for The Brutalist

The former youngest-ever winner of best actor Oscar won the award again for his portrayal of a fictional architect in Brady Corbet’s epic drama.

In 2003, Brody, pictured below, became the youngest ever winner of the same award, when he took the prize for his role in Roman Polanski’s The Pianist, aged 29 years, 343 days.

Taking to the podium to accept his latest Oscar, he thanked director of The Brutalist Brady Corbet and his wife and co-writer Mona Fastvold, and paid tribute to his girlfriend, the fashion designer Georgina Chapman, and her two children.

As the wrap-up music began to play, Brody requested they stop so he could thank his parents for creating “just such a strong foundation of respect and of kindness and a wonderful spirit … and the strength to pursue this dream”.
